Who is MXI Environmental Services?
MXI has been in business since the 1960s serving our nationwide customer base
with hazardous and nonhazardous waste transportation from our various
facilities. We also operate waste transfer stations at Langhorne
(hazardous waste), Abingdon (hazardous and solid waste), Sumter
(hazardous waste) and Fontana (hazardous waste). Recognizing that our
industrial and commercial customers needed assistance with environmental
projects, in the 1990s we added an environmental services division, known as
MXI Environmental Services.
What services does MXI Environmental provide?
MXI Environmental Services offers a wide range of
disposal and recycling services
at our Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) located in Abingdon, VA. We can also
transport both hazardous and nonhazardous wastes on our own fleet of trucks. We
operate waste transfer stations at Langhorne, PA (hazardous waste), Abingdon,
VA (hazardous and solid waste), Sumpter, SC (hazardous waste), and
Fontana, CA (hazardous waste). For a complete list of available services,

What types of waste do you handle at the Abingdon Materials Recovery
Facility (MRF)?

If you have questions about the waste you need to process, contact Jim
Monticello, MXI's director of environmental operations, at (732) 424-8441, ext.
107, or jimm@mxiinc.com.
Alternatively, you can contact Scott Shaw, MXI's environmental manager, at
scotts@mxiinc.com or (276) 628-6366, ext. 202. You can also
complete and submit a material profile.
Can MXI hold and consolidate my company's waste?
Yes. We have a 10-day transfer permit that allows us to hold hazardous
waste in transit for ten days at each of our four facilities. This allows us to
pick up from multiple locations for a customer and consolidate the wastes at
our facility for more cost effective shipment to disposal facilities.
Can MXI help us with waste characterization and packaging?
Yes. We have staff who are available to consult on
waste characterization and packaging questions.
How do I get waste accepted by MXI's materials recovery facility for
treatment & disposal?
In order for MXI to accept any waste material, you must complete a
material profile that includes chemical and physical parameters of the
waste and DOT shipping classifications. MXI's environmental manager for the MRF
reviews the profile and grants approval for the waste to be transported to the
MRF. The review process ensures that RCRA-regulated wastes are not accepted for
processing at the MRF. If sufficient information isn't provided to determine a
hazardous/nonhazardous classification, lab analysis will be required.
Can MXI transport waste from my facility?
MXI transports waste, including less than truckload quantities, from customer
facilities on MXI-owned trucks. MXI can transport both nonhazardous and
hazardous wastes that are in liquid, solid, or semi-solid form. We can
transport waste in drums, totes and tanks as well as other DOT approved
containers. Click here for more
information about our transportation services. Materials are required to be
scheduled into the MRF before transport.
What is the Abingdon Material Recovery Facility's emergency spill plan?
While we take every precaution to prevent accidental spills, MXI does have in
place a minimization and response plan in the event of a spill. Since we are
also waste transporters, all of our trailers are equipped with an over-pack
drum and absorbent. Each tractor has a spill kit, absorbent and safety and
cleanup equipment. Each driver has been trained in our spill response plan. At
the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), the facility itself is on an impervious
material that has been graded to allow for accumulation rather than runoff of
spilled materials. The MRF is equipped with over-pack drums, absorbent
materials, spill response kits and materials handling equipment required to
address any spill type. Our staff is continually trained to ensure that they
know how to respond to any spill.
