Materials Recovery Facility (MRF)
In 2001 MXI completed construction and began operating a state-of-the-art Materials Recovery Facility in Abingdon, VA that is capable of receiving of receiving up to 200 tons of waste a day in bulk, drums, cartons, or palletized loads. MXI is capable of bulking and solidifying various waste streams using a range of decontainerization equipment. Disposal of waste streams not eligible for beneficial reuse is accomplished utilizing fully licensed TSDFs, Incinerators, and Subtitle D Landfills. This process is usually supplemented by a breakdown and recycling of packing materials and can be coupled with the recovery of liquids for reuse.
